YOUR VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT

REGATTA COMMISION
TEAM RESPONSIBILTIES

If you have agreed to serve on the Regatta Commission, we will count on you to organize one area of regatta operations and to recruit other volunteers from your program to carry out those responsibilities for the entire season. Most teams handle the same jobs every year.

Team volunteers performing season-long responsibilities work under the supervision of their Regatta Commission representative and the details of each job vary. We try to give each program all the leeway it needs to complete its work in the way that it knows best, so you will want to direct your questions primarily to your parent organization or Regatta Commission member.

REGISTERED VOLUNTEERS

If you are one of your team’s three registered volunteers assigned to motor launch or general regatta duties, you will receive an email on the Friday evening prior to the regatta containing details about when to report and where. Usually you will be assigned to work a three hour shift. Times vary a bit for specific jobs, but we ask first shift volunteers to work from sometime in the 7 o’clock hour to about 10:30 AM. A second shift reports at 10:15 AM and works until the end of the regatta, usually about 12:30 PM.

Most volunteers will report to the picnic shelter area. Look for the large volunteer check-in banner. If you have been assigned to work as a motor launch operator, please go directly to the motor launch dock at the far end of the regatta grounds.

Early season regattas can be chilly and it is much colder in a moving launch than it is ashore. Please dress responsibly. Launch drivers should not wear any red clothing that will be visible to rowers.

Although we would like to provide free parking for regatta volunteers, our arrangements with Norfolk Botanical Garden do not permit us to do so. Thanks for your understanding.
